Plant systematics and evolution

The diversification of life is studied through systematic biology. Specific aims of phylogenies are the reconstruction of both past and present plant evolution and relationships among groups of plants through time. At Bioflora we have focused our phylogenetic and biogeographical research of temperate grasses (Poeae-Aveneae, Loliinae, Brachypodium), distributed in most continents, including model species of temperate cereals and other ecologically and economically important grass species. We have also investigated the phylogenies and historical distributions of other monocot (Dioscoreaceae and Orchidaceae) and of dicot (Cleomoideae) plant groups.
